Bijna twee weken geleden ben ik terug gekomen van een reis naar Amerika. In mijn reisschema had ik de Amerikaanse beurs 'Philadelphia Miniaturia' gepland. Ik had een heerlijke kamer met uitzicht op de rivier in het hotel waar de beurs gehouden werd. Voor de beurs heb ik twee workshops gevolgd waar ik erg veel van geleerd heb. Het was de eerste keer dat ik een Amerikaanse beurs bezocht en het was geweldig zoveel mensen te ontmoeten waar ik wel de naam van kende, maar die nooit naar Europa komen. Het leukste was natuurlijk dat ik al die mooie dingen die ik wel eens op foto's had gezien nu in het echt kon bewonderen.
Nearly two weeks ago I returned from a trip to the USA. My travel plans included the miniatures fair in Philadelphia"'Philadelphia Miniaturia'. It was my first time visiting an American miniatures show and I loved seeing everything I had read about and seen pictures of.
De twee Amerikaanse miniaturisten die me het meest bijgebleven zijn, zijn Elle Piccolo en June Clinkscales. Hoewel ik niet echt een poppenliefhebber ben, vond ik de gezichtsuitdrukkingen en detaillering in de kleding van de popjes van Elle geweldig mooi.
Mijn absolute favoriet was toch wel June Clinkscales. Wat zij doet met stoffen, patronen, textuur en kleur is fantastisch. Haar werk heeft een levendigheid en artisticiteit die ik vaak mis in (vooral Amerikaanse) miniaturen. Ik ben diverse keren terug geweest naar haar stand en heb echt staan kwijlen. De foto's op de website geven een goede indruk van haar werk, maar in werkelijkheid is het echt veel mooier. Bekijk vooral eens haar prachtige website!
The two American miniaturists who really stood out for me were Elle Piccolo (even though I am not a doll person) and June Clinkscales. I had seen pictures of dolls made by Elle before and always thought they were fun, but seeing the real ones made me realize they are far better than the pictures do them justice. The expressions on their faces and detail in their clothing makes you think you're looking at a little person frozen in time. Wonderful work.
The miniatures by June Clinkscales were my absolute favourites though. I have stood drooling over her work a couple of times during my visits to the show. Her treatment and eye for fabrics, texture and colour is fantastic! Her work has a lively and artistic touch which I often find lacking in miniatures. Here too, the pictures I had previously seen of her work showed me it was good, but the real thing is so much better! I hope one day to be able to buy one of her pieces. Helaas ben ik vergeten foto's te nemen van deze mooie stands. Ik heb maar van één stand foto's gemaakt, de stand van 'Le Chateau Interiors'. Deze mensen verkochten prachtige antieke en unieke miniaturen en een aantal prachtige kijkkasten. De kijkkasten (hieronder) vond ik geweldig mooi. Misschien heeft dat iets te maken met het feit dat ik een studie textiele werkvormen gedaan heb, met als hoofdvak modevormgeving. De foto's moest ik snel nemen en met flits, dus de kwaliteit is niet geweldig, maar ik laat ze toch maar zien.
Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the miniatures mentioned. In fact, I didn't take many pictures at all. The few I did take I will show below. All of these were taken at the booth of Le Chateau Interiors from Louisiana. Their booth had a wonderful collection of antique and unique miniatures and these beautiful roomboxes below. I absolutely adore both roomboxes. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that my major in art college was textiles and fashion design. I apologize for the quality of the photographs, they were taken with flash and rather hurriedly.
